We have created a unique organocatalytic process to produce fuel from heterogeneous biomass.  The advanced, renewable fuel oxygenates produced from the xFuroate technology are a family of energy dense, highly oxygenated molucules superior to other biofuels. The xFuroates can blend with gasoline, diesel, biodiesel or other biofuels to provide better performance, increased fuel economy and lower emissions.


xFuroates are a third generation biofuel additive designed to work within the current transportation fuel market.  It can be transported using existing pipelines, is made from diverse biomass, and is sustainable. xFuroates break the barriers of production costs and yields, allowing the xFuroate tecnology to market at a rapid pace and volumes necessary to meet current and future demands.

We have developed a 2-step process that converts biomass-derived C6 sugars into an oxygenated additive to gasoline and diesel. The family is named after the alcohol used (x) and the chemical structure it is attached to (Furoate). Hence the name of the technology: xFuroates.


The process is designed to be agnostic to the type of biomass feedstock used, therefor any biomass source that is high in cellulouse and other sugars that contain 6 carbons (hence “C6 sugars”) are viable options. Options for biomass include corn stover, wood and agricultural waste, plus bagasse.

Ethyl Furoate (EF) Fuel Oxygenate

Ethyl Furoate (EF) is produced through our patented process by combining ethanol (conventional or cellulosic) with our intermediary 5-(chloromethyl)-2-furfural (CMF). Further information can be found by clicking to Learn More button below.


EF is an excellent oxygenate for both gasoline and diesel, with high energy content, is hydrophobic, with excellent lubricity. These and other properties under the Learn More button below have and are being confirmed by independent third party engine testing at a well-known and respected laboratory. Due to the cellulosic feedstock used to produce the CMF, EF is an advanced biofuel and therefore meets several mandates of the U.S. EPA, EISI, DOE and DOD, as well as Internationl bodies cellulosic fuel requirements.
